As the exclusive academic partner of the Charleston Literary Festival (CLF), the College of Charleston is playing a prominent role in the internationally renowned festival, which runs Nov. 4-13, 2022.

The festival will feature a host of world-class writers and thinkers exploring today’s most pressing issues and ideas. Additionally, several College of Charleston deans and faculty members will serve as interlocutors for the CLF public program, including:

  • Jennifer Wilhelm, associate professor of psychology, with Dutch primatologist and ethologist Frans de Waal
  • Tamara Butler, executive director of the College of Charleston’s Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture, with Imani Perry, interdisciplinary scholar of racelawliterature, and African American culture
  • School of the Arts Dean Edward Hart ’88 with British historian and former political journalist Tim Bouverie
  • Honors College Dean Elizabeth Meyer-Bernstein with writer and lecturer Julie Orringer
  • Shannon Eaves, assistant professor of history, with historian Tiya Miles
  • Special Collections archivist Harlan Greene with academic Geoffrey Harpham and operatic soprano Alyson Cambridge

In addition, CLF Artistic Director Diana Reich has arranged four special events for CofC students and faculty to meet with specific authors on campus, including Imani Perry, Marcus Amaker, Eddie S. Glaude Jr. and Geraldine Brooks.

Tickets to the opening party at CofC’s Rivers Green on Nov. 5, 2022, as well as individual author programs are available for purchase online through the Charleston Literary Festival website.

This is the second consecutive year the College has been chosen as the exclusive academic partner for the festival. As the academic partner, the College of Charleston and its Alumni Association are providing the CLF with financial, promotional and logistical support. In addition, students have the opportunity to intern, volunteer and attend the programs.
