Press Release

Social Venture Partners Charleston (SVP) raised a total of $143,700 at its Empower Charleston nonprofit showcase, held on October 27th. The funds raised at the Empower Charleston showcase, together with three previously announced grants of  $120,000, allow SVP to award a total of $263,750 to six mission-driven nonprofits by year-end.

Empower Charleston celebrated the finalists of SVP’s 2022 grant investment cycle. The six small nonprofits benefitting from funds raised at Empower Charleston are: Beyond Our Walls; Charleston Hope; Charleston Legal Access; Heart Math Tutoring; Increasing H.O.P.E; and We Are Family.

The leaders of each nonprofit made a five-minute pitch to an audience of 200 people at The Cedar Room in Charleston. The presentations focused on mental health, economic mobility, and elementary education challenges faced by youth and families in the Lowcountry.

“With these quarter-million dollars in grants, SVP is making a transformational investment in six  outstanding nonprofits,” said Ian Devine, Board Chair of Social Venture Partners Charleston. “The nonprofit leaders were given a microphone and five minutes to tell their stories. Their innovative approaches to some of Charleston’s most pressing problems won over the audience.”

Prior to the showcase, Social Venture Partners had announced two-year strategic partnerships with Charleston Hope, Increasing H.O.P.E, and We Are Family. Those three organizations will share additional grants totaling $120,000 plus ongoing consulting from SVP Partners.
