CCSD District 8 Candidate Darlene Dunmeyer Responds To “Attack Mailer”

Published

on

Darlene Dunmeyer, a candidate for Charleston County School District 8, released the following statement to constituents regarding recent mailers she says were sent by her opponent:

“Constituents of District 8,

Many of us received a negative attack mailer from my opponent Travis Bedson yesterday. It is a sad testament to the character of my opponent that he would stoop so low to make both unfounded and false statements against me. The purpose is to distract voters from his lack of experience and qualifications to be elected to this office.

These are all symptoms of his bitterness because of my endorsement from a Party and members of a Party he feels he’s entitled to. He simply wants to distract you from comparing my qualifications to his lack of qualifications and experience to hold this office.

His, along with his operatives’ false accusations of my residency is baseless. Rest assured, I know where I live, and it is in District 8 at my childhood address since my return home in 2019. Moreover, I live at the same address where Mr. Bedson had the negative attack mailer addressed to me. Don’t be fooled!

The world is full of conservatives and business owners, but that is not a qualifier in a non-partisan School Board race…it’s ‘code’. After my opponent’s loss in the State Superintendent primary, he then decided to enter the CCSD School Board race. Although I qualified to run for State Superintendent, I was committed to this local race from Day 1, because charity begins at home. You, my beloved community, were not an afterthought just to have a title associated with my name.

Lastly, I pride myself in running a positive campaign based solely on educational awareness and rural solutions. So, Constituents of District 8, let’s remain vigilant in voting for the most qualified candidate in District 8, the candidate that has been vetted and has the most endorsements of all school board candidates (the Republican Party as well as the Democratic Party, among others). Vote for the candidate with 36 years of education, school counseling, and business experience, and the candidate that will be your voice and your new single-member district School Board representative, Darlene Dunmeyer. As local Johns Island Civil Rights leader, Esau Jenkins, so eloquently said, ‘Love is progress, hate is expensive.'”
