Local Artist Daisy McClellan Hosting Modern Punch Needle Workshop at Redux
Local artist Daisy McClellan invites the community to come learn the art of punch needle at Redux Contemporary Art Center on Sunday November 13th from 11 am to 1 p. While this traditional embroidery technique has been around for centuries, it has recently come back in a big and modern way in the crafting community.
Daisy will teach you everything you need to know to get started with what she calls a meditative and relaxing craft. Beginners are welcome – no experience is required. You’ll learn about the best supplies to get started, how to thread a punch needle, stretch a frame, draw your own design to fabric, how to punch, and transfer your piece to a display hoop so you can hang your new piece right away.
You’ll also talk about tips and tricks for turning your piece into a pillow, purse, trivet, and more. This two-hour class includes all the materials ($125 value), so you get to go home with the tools to continue with future punch needle projects. You’ll either finish the 9-inch circle wall hanging in class or if you don’t, you will have all the skills/materials to finish it at home.
Materials included:
– #10 Regular Oxford Punch Needle
– 5oz of premium wool rug yarn (in 5 different 1-ounce colors)
– Monk’s Cloth Backing Fabric
– 9 inch Morgan Non-Slip Hoop
