South Carolina Is 2022’s 10th Most Overweight & Obese State in America – WalletHub Study

Personal finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2021’s Most Overweight & Obese States in America and South Carolina was listed as being the 10th most overweight and obese state in the country. Last year, the Palmetto State ranked as the 9th most overweight and obese state.

To determine which states contribute the most to America’s overweight and obesity problem, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 31 key metrics. They range from the share of overweight and obese population to sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents to obesity-related health care costs.

Obesity & Overweight Problem in South Carolina (1=Fattest; 25=Avg.):

  • 20th – % of Overweight Adults
  • 14th – % of Obese Adults
  • 23rd – % of Overweight Children
  • 9th – % of Obese Children
  • 19th – % of Physically Inactive Adults
  • 17th – % of Adults with High Cholesterol
  • 22nd – % of Adults Eating Less than 1 Serving of Fruits/Vegetables per Day
  • 7th – % of Adults with Type 2 Diabetes
  • 10th – % of Adults with Hypertension
