The Creative Misfits to Once Again Takeover The Pour House

Published

on

The HEART Inclusive Arts Community is bringing back the “Creative Misfits,”a week-long fundraising event that includes a virtual art auction, online gallery exhibition, and a live rock concert at the Charleston Pour House.

Originally a term of endearment that the members and mentors gave to themselves, “Creative Misfit” has grown into an overarching concept for the work of the HEART studio. It now serves as the theme of the artwork sought out for the fundraising auction. Artists frequently have finished work that lingers around their studio for months or years, not finding a buyer or a gallery to call home. They may be studies for larger works, an experiment in a new technique or medium, or a one-off exploration of a different subject. These works of art all belong under the title “Creative Misfits,” and are exactly the kind of pieces that HEART aims to collect from donating artists, and make available to the public in the virtual art auction.

This year, the art auction is packed full of donated work by more than 25 talented artists from near and far. You will recognize a number of returning artists like Nick Kawczynski, Tami Boyce, Becca Barnet, and Taylor Faulkner, just to name a few. There are also plenty of newly anointed “Creative Misfits.”

The Creative Misfits virtual art auction begins on Friday, November 25th and is open through Saturday, December 3rd.

To cap it all off, the HEARTists will hit the stage at The Pour House on James Island for a live rock concert event, “Creative Misfits LIVE!.” Each HEARTist will take on the persona of their favorite rock icon. Together, they’ll be belting out classic hits from the birth of rock and roll to the end of the millennium. The show will take place on Saturday, December 3rd at 6 pm. Doors open at 5 pm.

HEART Inclusive Arts Community is a multi-disciplinary art studio working with adults with disabilities who want to grow and develop as artists, providing visual arts, music, writing, and performing arts mentorship, as well as community engagement. HEART has created a center where artists of all abilities work together to create something that enriches and transforms the community.
