Charleston Battery winger Fidel Barajas (right) has been called up to the Mexico U-17 national team again for the squad’s upcoming friendlies in Mexico. He is among the 27 players selected by U-17 head coach Raúl Chabrand.

El Tri will hold their camp at the High Performance Center of the Mexican Football Federation, just south of Mexico City. There, they will face the youth squads of Costa Rica (December 13th) and Canada (December 19th) to close out the year.

Barajas rejoins the Mexico U-17s after a productive spell in October during the UNCAF FIFA Forward U-16 Tournament in Honduras. Fidel appeared in all four matches, scoring one goal and contributing four assists, as Mexico ended as runners-up in the tournament final.

It’s been a busy offseason for Fidel after making three appearances for the Battery in October before the 2022 campaign concluded. He tallied two assists across the three games.

Barajas has featured in 10 total matches for the Mexico U-17 team, scoring four goals. The upcoming games come as part of El Tri’s preparations for qualification for the 2023 U-17 FIFA World Cup
