Local Seventh Grader Hosting “Holiday Puppy Parade” Fundraiser this Saturday

Harper Woodlee, a 12-year-old who is in Seventh Grade at the Charleston School of the Arts, is attempting to give back this holiday season by hosting a “Holiday Puppy Parade” fundraiser this Saturday, December 17th. The event begins at 3 pm at Alhambra Hall and ends at the James B. Edwards Dog park.

“The fundraiser is for Water Mission, a nonprofit group that helps bring clean water to people all around the world who do not have access to safe water,” Harper (pictured below) said. “I was inspired to host this event because my class took a field trip to Water Mission headquarters. We had to carry empty buckets of water on the walk there, which was about 2.5 miles, only half of what most girls and women have to walk and carry every single day in places where water is not near by. Once we were done touring the facilities, we filled up our buckets with rain water and walked back to school. It was extremely tiring and hard to do. I knew in that moment that I needed to do something to help, and what came to mind was raising money for the organization. Attendees can bring their dog(s) dressed up in the holiday spirit, and have the chance to meet other dog lovers.

On top of coming up with this concept, Harper also created the flyer seen above and even went as far as figuring out how to create a QR code. She has been been promoting it via post cards, her school, and relying on her neighbors to help spread the word.
