Reps. Mace and Khanna’s Cybersecurity Bill Signed into Law by President Biden

President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed the Quantum Computing Cybersecurity Preparedness Act into law. Rep. Nancy Mace released the following statement on her and Rep. Ro Khanna’s bipartisan bill being signed into law:

“To strengthen our cybersecurity is to strengthen our national security. Just yesterday the Quantum Computing Cybersecurity Preparedness Act was signed into law. Rep. Ro Khanna and Senators Portman and Hassan worked hard to ensure this critical bill got through. When coming to Washington, we promised to work across the aisle to help strengthen our country, and this law is the perfect example of bipartisanship in action.”

According to Rep. Mace’s office, the Quantum Computing Cybersecurity Preparedness Act will:

  • Require the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to prioritize the acquisition and migration of federal agencies’ information technology to post-quantum cryptography;
  • Instruct OMB to create guidance for federal agencies to assess critical systems one year after the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issues planned post-quantum cryptography standards;
  • Direct OMB to send an annual report to Congress that includes a strategy on how to address post-quantum cryptography risks, the funding that might be necessary, and an analysis on whole-of-government coordination and migration to post-quantum cryptography standards and information technology.
