Folly Beach Shares Details for Annual Flip Flop Drop, Fireworks Show, and Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Bear Plunge

Celebrate the coming of 2023 at the Folly Beach Flip Flop Drop as the famous pair of giant sparkly flip-flops descend from high above Center Street to mark the stroke of midnight. Immediately following the drop, the Folly Association of Business will host a fireworks show on the beach. Center Street will close to auto traffic at 10 pm.

The next day, you can kick off the new year at the 9th Annual Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Bear Plunge & Costume Contest on Sunday, January 1st, 2023. Dress as your favorite Bill Murray character (or whatever costume you’d like) and enter the Costume Contest to win prizes for Best Girl, Best Guy, Best Kid, Best Team, or Best Overall Bill Murray. Then, “freeze your Bills off” as you take a plunge into the chilly Atlantic.

There is a $5 contest entry fee for participants 18+, but there is no charge for the plunge. The costume contest will begin at 10 am on the beach at the Tides Hotel and the Plunge into the Atlantic will commence at 11 am. To register early for the costume contest, visit VisitFolly.com.
