Shem Creek Boat Landing to Close for Improvements Starting on January 9th
The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) announced that the Shem Creek Boat Landing will close for scheduled repairs and improvements starting on January 9th, 2023.
CCPRC is beginning a project that will include repaving of the boat landing parking lot, the installation of new stormwater structures and storm drain lines, and minimal dredging under the floating dock.
Additionally, ADA accessibility will be improved by providing an accessible route from the parking spaces to the boat ramp. This work will include reconstructing sidewalks, installing ADA ramps, reconstructing accessible parking spaces, and replacing storm grates to meet ADA standards.
The exact timeline of the project and the closure is not known at this time; however, it is anticipated to take place through early spring. Updates on the progress of the project will be posted at CharlestonCountyParks.com.
Unrelated to this repair project, CCPRC recently announced the purchase of a .53-acre property adjacent to the boat landing that will allow for parking expansion at the site in the future. The 2023 repairs are unrelated to this new land purchase and were previously scheduled for the existing site.
CCPRC maintains 19 public boat landings throughout Charleston County. For additional information on these landings, visit ccprc.com/Boating.
