The Charleston Battery announced Tuesday the club’s slate of preseason games ahead of the 2023 campaign. The Battery will host Charlotte FC of Major League Soccer, Tormenta FC of USL League One and the squads of the College of Charleston, University of South Carolina and Coastal Carolina University.

Charleston will welcome fans back to Patriots Point for the first time in 2023 when Charlotte FC return to the Lowcountry on Saturday, Feb. 11. Tickets for the match are on sale now through tickets.charlestonbattery.com and Season Members have the game already included in their Membership.

The Battery bested the MLS club in the first meeting, 1-0, when the two played at Patriots Point last February. Aidan Apodaca scored the match-winning goal that night.

Head Coach Ben Pirmann is looking forward to the early tests for the squad.

“We are so excited to be able to play multiple colleges from our state, as well as challenge ourselves against top teams from multiple professional divisions,” said Coach Pirmann. “Preseason is a time to set standards, learn about ourselves, reflect and improve for the regular season. These training matches will help us implement our style of play while focusing on improving at individual and group levels.”

The Black and Yellow begin and end the preseason slate with closed-door friendlies against Coastal Carolina and League One title-winners South Georgia Tormenta FC on February 5 and March 4, respectively.

After Charlotte, the Battery will host the Gamecocks on Saturday, Feb. 18. Tickets for the match are on sale now through tickets.charlestonbattery.com and Season Members have the game already included in their Membership.

The Battery then face fellow Patriots Point resident College of Charleston on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The game will be free admission and fans will be encouraged to participate by making a donation that will benefit the CofC Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams.

The Battery hit the road at the end of the month to face USL1 side North Carolina FC on February 25 in a closed-door friendly.

“Our main goal throughout preseason will be to constantly improve; physically, tactically, psychologically, emotionally,” said Coach Pirmann. “We want to be far better after this month of games as we prepare to kick off the regular season at Patriots Point in March.”
