SCDP Chair Requests Investigation Into Certification of SC Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver

Published

on

Today, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Trav Roberston, Jr. sent letters to US Attorney General Merrick Garland and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson asking them to investigate the circumstances surrounding the candidate certification of South Carolina Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver. The letters are linked below.

In the letters, Robertson writes that the South Carolina Republican Party, Bob Jones University, Weaver, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges all “conspired to commit fraud and circumvent state law.”

When Weaver entered the state superintendent race, she did not have a masters degree, which was required by state law. Eight months after announcing she was working on her degree, Weaver claimed to have graduated.
