The College of Charleston Orchestra will present a spring concert featuring remarkably accomplished violinist Sarah Chang in a performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto and for a movement of Bach’s Double Violin Concerto alongside the orchestra’s conductor, Yuriy Bekker. The concert will open with a movement of the Schumann Piano Concerto performed by CofC music major Clara Camacho and a work by music composition alumnus Jacqueline Eberhard.

Since her debut with the New York Philharmonic at the age of eight, Chang has continued to impress audiences with her technical virtuosity and refined emotional depth. Chang studied at the Juilliard School. She has performed with almost all of the major American orchestras and numerous international orchestras as well. She also has appeared at many of the world’s prominent music venues, including the Hollywood Bowl, Tanglewood, Ravinia, and the Aspen Music Festival.

Chang’s other distinctions include an Avery Fisher Grand Prize, a Harvard University Leadership Award, a Royal Philharmonic Award for Young Artist, a Nan Pa Award, a Gramophone Award for Young Artist of the Year, and the Internazionale Accademia Musicale Chigiana Prize. She began her career as one of the most recognized violinists of our time. (Full bio below).

Yuriy Bekker shares, “Our College of Charleston Orchestra continues its trajectory of excellence in artistry, musicianship and music education. After an incredible experience performing with preeminent violinist Augustin Hadelich last spring, followed by a performance for the 2023 Capital Orchestra Festival at the Kennedy Center, the orchestra partakes in yet another incredible opportunity in this performance with Sarah Chang. Concerts with such esteemed musicians enrich our orchestra, as well as the Charleston community, in countless ways.”

Hosted by the College’s Department of Music and sponsored by Frank and Peggy Oldham, the concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 in the Sottile Theatre, 44 George St. Tickets range from $20 to $40 and can be purchased through the George Street Box Office online, by calling (843) 953-4726 or emailing gsbo@cofc.edu.
