Philadelphia-based, Montreal-Style Bagel Shop Coming to Mt. Pleasant
Spread Bagelry, a Montreal-style, wood oven bagel establishment, plans to opens its first location outside of Philadelphia in Mount Pleasant’s Oyster Park this March. Founded in 2010, Spread Bagelry previously opened nine locations in the city of brotherly love, and one in New Jersey.
“We are thrilled to become a part of the Mount Pleasant neighborhood,” said Jamie Schrotberger, CEO of Spread Bagelry. “We have a unique opportunity to introduce a new kind of bagel to Charlestonians and we have been met with nothing but excitement and kindness.”
According to Spread, a Montreal-style bagel is distinctly boiled in honey water and baked in a wood-fire oven. In comparison to a New York-style bagel, Montreal-style bagels have a golden-brown crust and are sweeter and chewier.
Spread Bagerly will be open for breakfast and lunch, seven days a week, from 7 am until “midafternoon” – Spread locations typically close around 3 pm when the supply of fresh bagels no longer meets the demand.
This new Mt. Pleasant location can be found at 1400 Shucker Circle. You can learn more at spreadbagelry.com.
