The Footlight Players today announced that they are offering discounted tickets to their current production, The Mountaintop by Katori Hall. For this weekend only, you can receive 25% off regular ticket prices (not retroactive to any already purchased tickets). The shows are scheduled for tonight and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3 pm.

To receive the discount, buyers can enter the promotional code MLKJR in the upper right hand corner of their ticket purchase screen.

The production is a Martin Luther King, Jr. drama featuring a fictionalized conversation with a maid at the Lorraine Motel that exposes the person behind the legacy and how sometimes a great man is also simply a human being.

The Post and Courier calls the Footlight Players production of The Mountaintop a “double-hitter of theatrical heft” as NYC Equity guest actors Crystin Gilmore and J. Jerome Rogers take on a fictionalized account of MLK Jr’s final night on earth in his room at the Lorraine Motel. The night before his assassination, Martin Luther King, Jr. returns to the Lorraine Hotel after delivering his last impassioned speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop.” A mysterious maid delivers his room service, though she seems to have more on her agenda than a simple meal. As their conversation progresses, true intentions come to light in a story written to humanize Dr. King, to help us understand that you don’t have to be superhuman to be a hero.
