Press Release

SC Whitmore School (SCWS), a statewide virtual public charter high school, is excited to announce Ashten Latta (right), the SCWS Public Relations Manager, has been named to the National School Public Relations Association’s (NSPRA) 2022 – 2023 35 Under 35 class.

According to NSPRA, “Every other year, NSPRA’s 35 Under 35 program recognizes professional and professional partner members who are making a difference for their school districts or education-related employers. We had a record number of nominations this year, making the selection process very competitive. Latta’s selection was based on her emerging leadership and commitment to excellence in school communications.”

After graduating from the University of South Carolina in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism, Latta knew she wanted to continue to connect our community through communication, and SC Whitmore School was the perfect place to give her the opportunity to do just that. Latta has been a member of the SCWS team for almost four years and enjoys the energy and collective creativity of all the faculty and staff.

“We are so lucky to have the expertise of Ashten Latta to best represent SC Whitmore School and our community,” said SC Whitmore School Executive Director Kim Dunbar. “Her positive attitude, great ideas, and support of the SCWS mission and vision has continued to strengthen our school and student success. She is more than deserving of this recognition.”

“I have always been an individual who likes to set goals, and work towards achieving success, said Latta. “Two concepts that my parents always shared with me are, teams win and success means more options. If you have a team that you can trust, communicate with, and believe in, you will achieve success and success truly means you will have more options.

As the Public Relations Manager at SCWS Latta has the opportunity to share stories from alumni, current students, and prospective students allowing them to see themselves at SCWS and understand that success in education comes in many forms.

“We love having the opportunity to connect with our students, and in my opinion, one of the best ways we connect is by hearing what they value and applying it in real-time,” said Latta. “It is important to take a step back and listen to what our community needs and successfully communicate the story.”

“Ashten has been such an integral part in creating connections within the community with the goal of expanding our school’s network to share our story and reaching out to our SC families who could benefit from what our school has to offer,” said SC Whitmore School Principal Eboné Adams. “Ashten does a phenomenal job celebrating and highlighting our accomplishments which keeps people intrigued about what we do. We truly appreciate her creativity and the way she is so engaged with our school community.”

Becoming a member of the National School Public  Relations Association’s 2022-2023 35 Under 35 class is a surprise and brings Latta great joy. “I am fortunate to work with phenomenal individuals at SCWS who embrace innovative ideas to support our students, faculty, and staff,” said Latta. “I am truly honored and humbled to be named as a member of the National School Public Relations Association’s 2022-2023 35 Under 35 class.”
