Press Release

The DAE Foundation and the Charleston Department of Public Safety present Safety DAE: A Preventative Initiative brought to you by America’s Best Choice of Charleston. Held at the College of Charleston TD Arena on March 25th, from 8:30 am to 1 pm, this free community event introduces a broader concept of public safety, while helping to educate, raise awareness, and promote safety discussions between student-athletes and the community regarding emergency contacts, while creating an open forum for discussions.

Charleston County Public Safety: 9-1-1 Dispatch, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Charleston County Sheriff, City of Charleston and College of Charleston Fire departments as well as representatives from the United States Coast Guard and Army will all be on hand to educate the community about public safety related to fire safety, medical safety, natural disasters, and knowledge of the criminal justice system, and to introduce the community to career opportunities in the field.

“Charleston County Government Public Safety is excited about Safety DAE,” said Joshua Williamson, Public Safety Community Outreach Coordinator with the Charleston County Government. “We aim to provide awareness about Public Safety and career opportunities for Charleston, South Carolina citizens. If you are seeking a rewarding career within Public Safety, join us at Safety DAE on March 25th to meet our recruiters.”

Attendees ages 10+ can participate in the Jermel President Free Throw Challenge. Student-athletes are invited to come out and show their free throw shooting skills, with prizes being awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

“If you love college basketball, this will be a great family event to attend,” said President. “Bring your athletes out to compete on the big stage.”

For adults ages 18+, the DAE Foundation is also hosting the Rick Barry Free Throw Challenge at The Alley in downtown Charleston that evening, March 25th at 5:30 pm.  Participants must shoot underhanded just like the great Rick Barry. The winners will receive prizes: 1st place wins a Bowling Party for 12 ($250 value), 2nd place wins a $100 Alley Gift Card, and 3rd place wins a $50 Alley Gift Card. There will also be an Underhanded Shoot Off where the winner gets a $25 Alley Gift Card. For those not shooting, there will be Elite 8 March Madness basketball.
