South Carolina Is 2023’s 7th Worst State for Women – WalletHub Study

WalletHub recently released its study on 2023’s Best & Worst States for Women and South Carolina ranked as the 7th WORST in the country. Believe it or not, this is actually a slight improvement from last year’s rankings when the Palmetto State was listed as the 4th worst.

To identify the most women-friendly states, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 key metrics. The data set ranges from median earnings for female workers to women’s preventive health care to the female homicide rate.

Woman-Friendliness of South Carolina (1=Best, 25=Avg.):

• 35^th – Median Earnings for Female Workers (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
• 42^nd – Share of Women in Poverty
• 18^th – Share of Women-Owned Businesses
• 45^th – High School Graduation Rate for Women
• 43^rd – Share of Women Who Voted in 2020 Presidential Election
• 40^th – Female Uninsured Rate
• 43^rd – Women’s Life Expectancy at Birth
• 37^th – Quality of Women’s Hospitals
• 18^th – Women’s Preventive Health Care
