SEL4SC Celebrates the Fourth Annual International Social-Emotional Learning Day: Uplifting Hearts, Connecting Minds
The Social Emotional Learning Alliance for South Carolina (SEL4SC) is joining SEL4US, the Urban Assembly, and schools and communities around the globe in celebrating the importance of social emotional learning (SEL) on the fourth annual International SEL Day on Friday, March 10, 2023. The theme this year is Uplifting Hearts, Connecting Minds.
Celebrations will start early this year with the launch of National SEL Week. From March 6-10, we’re rallying together online for five days to showcase the growing support and evidence for SEL, culminating with a national summit and social media blitz on SEL Day, March 10th.
On March 10th, from 1 pm to 1:50 pm, SEL4SC executive director Wendy Methvin will join a virtual panel of parents and SEL experts from South Carolina and Ohio to share real-life stories and solutions for SEL-infused parenting.
Speakers include:
• Jennifer Smith Miller, Founder, Author, Confident Parents, Confident Kids, Co-founder SEL4OH
• Pamela McVeagh-Lally, Founding Partner, SEL Consulting Collaborative, Co-founder SEL4OH
• Wendy Methvin, Executive Director, SEL4SC
• Dr. Lorilei Swanson, Regional Liaison-Upstate Region, Carolina Family Engagement Center
• Dia Mixon, Teacher and Children’s Book Author
“Children who have strong bonds with their parents tend to show better personal outcomes, such as academic performance, emotional development, and fewer behavioral problems. Parents can build and reinforce these bonds via conversations during dinner, playtime at home, family movie nights, and most importantly, checking in with their children’s feelings,” remarked Wendy Methvin, Executive Director of SEL4SC. “Our panel will look at how social and emotional learning can not only help parents build a deeper connection with their children but how it can help strengthen the bonds of everyone in the home.”
Geared toward parents and caregivers, this free session will provide an engaging and accessible overview of social and emotional learning’s role in parenting children of all ages and backgrounds. Takeaways will include access to a toolkit of strategies for parents/caregivers to deepen their connection with their children and build the social and emotional skills of everyone in the home.
