Wings For Kids Releasing New Book to Assist Children with Social-Emotional Skills
On March 6th, Charleston-based nonprofit Wings for Kids will launch a new children’s book, “I Soar with Wings,” to give more children and their families simple and accessible language to help them learn essential social-emotional skills.
The organization says this book and their work is important because social and emotional learning (SEL) skills are critical for children in today’s world. These types of skills provide kids with the tools to navigate the complex emotional and social challenges they face.
With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reveals that 87% of public schools in the US have reported a negative impact on their students’ socio-emotional development and 84% on their behavioral development.
Many children struggle with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues, which can impact their academic performance and social relationships. SEL skills help children develop resilience, empathy, and self-awareness, which are essential for building healthy relationships and coping with stress and adversity. In short, SEL skills are necessary for the overall well-being and success of our children.
