The Kappa Rho Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated invites youth ages 12-18 or 6th through 12th graders to its annual Youth Symposium to be held on Saturday, March 11th, from 10 am to 2 pm at Emanuel Baptist Church (106 Boone Street, Summerville).

This is the chapter’s first in-person Youth Symposium since the March 2020 event held during the weekend information about COVID-19 was released. Chapter members are glad to be back in person, along with other chapters, as this event will be simultaneously implemented by chapters internationally. The 2023 theme is “Supporting, Serving, and Empowering Our Youth Educationally, Civically, Socially, Physically, and Emotionally.” This is a free community event in which chapter members and guest presenters will provide fun, interactive, educational workshops to help guide the youth in making healthy decisions through H3: Healthy Choices, Healthy Living and Healthy Generations.

Topics discussed will include college prep, securing financial aid for college, money management/financial awareness through the Sigma Public Education and Research (SPEAR) Foundation’s program called Project Wee Savers, fitness through the sorority’s national program, Swim 1922, mental health, distracted driving prevention, the importance of voting, and social media awareness. There will be guest speakers, youth group vendors, refreshments, and giveaways.  Guest speakers from Latta Chavis Academy, C. Holmes and Associates, Alicia’s Financial Corner LLC, Gullah Swim Academy, Carolina Teen Center, the Xi Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Krystal Klear Productions, and Montrellion Media, along with a retired sheriff and police officer, will present workshops. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children on Eventbrite.com under 2023 Youth Symposium (KRS).

Youth Symposium helps sorority members give back to their community through “Greater Service, Greater Progress” as the sorority’s motto states. It is a product of Operation BigBookBag, an international service project sponsored by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is a leading international non-profit community service organization that continues to grow through Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service.
