Monopoly Announces Charleston Edition, Requests Help from Locals to Design It

This fall, Charleston residents will be able to play the classic board game Monopoly in a way that pays tribute to all things Holy City. From now until April 7th, fans can voice which locations they would like to see featured on the board via the official “MONOPOLY: Charleston Edition” e-mail at Charleston@toptrumps.com.

The new Monopoly edition will see locally themed squares replace Boardwalk and Park Place from the original Atlantic City Monopoly board and will include a customized ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards. A few squares will also be dedicated to some of Charleston’s most iconic and beloved landmarks.

“We want to ensure that Monopoly: Charleston Edition is an accurate portrayal of what locals love about the Holy City, so we would love for everyone to get on ‘board’ and send us their recommendations of what they would like to see included,” said Katie Hubbard, a representative from Top Trumps, the company involved with the game. “Anything and everything is up for consideration, including the Charleston RiverDogs, the Pineapple Fountain, the Charleston Museum, or Rainbow Row, and we want to know your favorite Charleston places that must be on the board – so please get involved!”

According to Top Trumps, manufacturers of the official Charleston version of Monopoly under license from global branded entertainment leader Hasbro, the game will be on shelves starting in November.

“It’s only fitting that one of the most historic cities in America would be represented in a special edition of one of the country’s most historic board games,” said Mayor John Tecklenburg. “We are honored to have been chosen for this partnership, and I look forward to playing a round of Monopoly: Charleston Edition!”
