Traffic Alert: Daytime Lane Closures on River Road

Crews will briefly close a lane on River Road on Johns Island starting Monday, March 27th to compete clearing work for the Northern Pitchfork Road Project. Closures will take place anytime between 9 am and 3 pm on River Road between Maybank Highway and Pamlico Terrace (see attached map). Work is expected to be completed on Friday, March 31st. All work is weather dependent, and crews will be onsite to direct traffic. Drivers are asked to be cautious in the construction area.
The Northern Pitchfork will connect Maybank Highway and River Road and allow traffic coming from the Stono River Bridge headed northbound to River Road to turn at Fenwick Hall Allee and then continue to River Road. Traffic coming towards James Island will be able to use the pitchfork to get to the bridge and avoid the River Road and Maybank Highway Intersection. The road is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
