North Charleston’s First Cat Café is Now Open

Published

on

Catnip & Coffee, North Charleston’s first cat café, has opened at 3414 Rivers Avenue. The business originally planned to open in Moncks Corner, but ended up finding a home in the North area instead. The café is owned by Kate Laflin, a licensed veterinary technician.

The business provides a foster home for adoptable cats from the Berkeley Animal Center, while also offering patrons coffee, beer, wine, and in-house, made-to-order charcuterie boards.

Cat cafés first appeared in Taiwan, and their popularity quickly spread around the world. There are a growing number of cat cafes in the United States, including in downtown Charleston and Summerville – an now, North Charleston.
