Press Release

The Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor’s education initiative today announced the Culture Keeper Teacher Fellowship for educators across the corridor in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The Fellowship is a year-long program where K-12 educators will have the opportunity to convene during four weekends in the year at partner sites throughout the Corridor.

As aligned to The Corridor’s purpose, each convening will focus on a topic specific to the following categories: history, natural resources, arts, and culture. Fellow should expect an immersive learning weekend where they will learn more about the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor through partner site visits and engage in professional development.

In partnership with The National Park Service’s Reconstruction Era National Historic Network, Fellows will curate educational materials that can be used in their classrooms, schools, and greater communities. Convenings will occur four weekends (Thursday – Sunday) throughout the 2023 – 2024 academic school year.

The Fellowship application is open from March 15-May 1, 2023. To apply for this fellowship, visit our website at www.gullahgeecheecorridor.org.

This Fellowship is fully funded, including lodging and travel accommodations, meals, and related materials expenses.
