Celebrate Earth Day with SC’s Only LGBT-Owned and Operated Thrift Store
With Earth Day approaching on April 22nd, We Are Family (WAF) is highlighting their sustainable, affordable, and gender-inclusive shopping experience, the Closet Case Thrift Store in North Charleston. Founded in 2019, the shop is the only LGBT-owned and operated thrift store in South Carolina.
According to WAF, 70% of items in a women’s closet go unworn, and ⅓ of women discard an item of clothing after less than five wears. Thrifting an item can extend its lifespan by 2.2 years, which can in turn reduce emissions by 73%. Thrifting is investing in the movement toward a more sustainable fashion industry.
When you donate to and shop at Closet Case, you are not only helping to reduce the waste and pollution that is created in the process of making new clothing items, your donations and purchases also support the local community by helping WAF provide necessary resources for LGBTQ+ youth in the Charleston area.
Profits from Closet Case Thrift Store contribute to WAF’s affirming programming and community initiatives that are focused on leadership development, community and movement building, and advocacy. You can learn more about WAF’s programs here.
Closet Case Thrift Store is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 am until 7 pm at 1801 Reynolds Ave, Unit B in North Charleston.
