Mount Pleasant Towne Centre to Celebrate World Autism Month with Lights & Love Event
April is World Autism Awareness Month and on Saturday, April 22nd, Mount Pleasant Towne Centre is celebrating by hosting Lights & Love, a special event for autism and neurodiversity awareness, being held in partnership with Just Bee.
The event comes on the heels of Mount Pleasant becoming the first municipality in the Lowcountry to be named an autism-friendly city earlier this month. The designation came from Just Bee, a Mount Pleasant-based nonprofit that helps local businesses and individuals create sensory-friendly spaces.
This event for families with children on the spectrum will take place from 1 pm to 3 pm and will feature live entertainment, face painting, balloon animals and glitter tattoos, caricature drawings, a bounce house, arts and crafts, live music from Irene Rose, food trucks, and more. In addition, Heather Artushin will be reading her poem “Lights & Love” and the story Rio & Bumblebee written by Heather and Layla Luna.
To further celebrate the proclamation, Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie will lead an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the event.
Guests are encouraged to RSVP to this free event with how many are in their party.
