Katie’s Krops To Host Inaugural Springfest on April 29th
Katie’s Krops is thrilled to announce our first annual Springfest; a free spring festival in our flagship garden where attendees can learn more about Katie’s Krops and our community partners while enjoying delicious food and participating in fun and educational activities! Katie’s Krops will unveil their new butterfly house at 11 am at Springfest.
This fun and free event will include garden tours given by Katie’s Krops youth volunteers, giveaways, arts and crafts for children, experts to answer all of your gardening questions, an art exhibition/contest from youth in the community, interactive activities from our partner organizations, delicious food from our friends at Destiny Community Cafe, opportunities to connect with fellow community members and find ways to volunteer in the Lowcountry, and so much more!
At 11 am, Katie’s Krops will do a ribbon cutting to unveil a new butterfly house, a sanctuary to protect the endangered monarch butterflies. This initiative was pioneered by our youth volunteers, in their mission to help save the monarchs. After a class in the Katie’s Krops Outdoor Classroom by Molly Jones from Dorchester 4-H, this group of children between the ages of 2 and 8 made it their mission to save this endangered species. The butterfly house will allow for monarch caterpillars to hatch into beautiful butterflies, safe from predators where they are free to feast on pesticide- free milkweed. This butterfly house was built by Kevin Arnold who is getting his graduate degree from the Clemson School of Architecture.
Katie’s Krops Founder, Katie Stagliano says, “Hosting Springfest has been a dream of ours for some time, and I am so excited to see this event come to life! Our flagship garden is such a special space to so many, and I can’t wait for the community to come to see it and learn more about our efforts to end hunger. I am so grateful to our partner organizations who will be joining us and thrilled for attendees to learn even more ways that they can get involved and give back in the Lowcountry. It will be such a wonderful day of fun, learning, and giving back!”
Springfest will take place at the Katie’s Krops Flagship garden, on the campus of Crossroads Community Church, located at 505 Gahagan Rd in Summerville on Saturday, April 29th from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be no cost to attend, and tickets are not required. Food will be available to purchase from our friends at Destiny Community Cafe’s Food Truck and there will be opportunities to make donations to support Katie’s Krops.
