Hagan Fine Art Gallery Announces New Location and Launch Party
Hagan Fine Art Gallery is thrilled to announce its move to 125 Church Street and its Launch Party there on May 5th. For the inaugural exhibition, the gallery will feature Amy Dixon’s exhibition titled “Intuitions.” Amy Dixon’s reception will be held on the same day as the gallery’s launch party, which is during Artwalk on May 5th from 5 pm to 8 pm. Hagan Fine Art Gallery (HFA) will kick off their launch party and Amy Dixon’s reception with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Charleston’s Mayor, John Tecklenburg and other special guests, at 5 pm on May 5th. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the gallery welcomes visitors to Amy Dixon’s reception with bubbles and nibbles, and the opportunity to mingle in-person with the artist.
Hagan Fine Art Gallery, now (as of May 5th) at 125 Church Street, is within easy walking distance to many of Charleston’s fine art galleries, new restaurants, fine shops, and one block away from the historic Dock Street Theatre (the oldest theater in America). One of the things that makes this location particularly special is that the gallery space was formerly home to many beloved Charleston artists, notably Margaret Petterson and John Carroll Doyle. John Doyle, a famous Charleston artist (1942-2014) became an encouraging supporter, mentor and friend to Karen Hewitt Hagan early in her art career. In 2010, Karen founded Hagan Fine Art Gallery in the French Quarter on State Street, not far from the gallery’s new Church Street location. “This move feels like coming home, visiting old friends,” says Karen Hewitt Hagan. “It’s a slice of history in a beautiful art neighborhood, and in a building that has been a celebrated art destination for decades. It’s an extreme honor to showcase the artists of HFA where so many much-loved Charleston artists have shown their works.”
Amy Dixon’s exhibition “Intuitions” will showcase 14 of her new works, including one monumental canvas and many large-scale statement paintings and will be on display at Hagan Fine Art Gallery from May 5 to May 31, 2023. Online purchases of Amy’s new works are going on now at HaganFineArt.com.
Says gallery owner Karen Hewitt Hagan, “Just like her art, Amy is a bundle of energy and so joyful to be around.” Amy Dixon is well known for her sophisticated abstract and expressionistic style, which features bold colors, dynamic shapes, and intriguing textures. As an artist who does not necessarily limit herself to one specific style, Dixon explores both abstract and loose representational painting, describing her work as “intuitive, curious, never stagnant, eccentric, energetic, and saturated with color.” Amy is universally praised for her unique brushwork and evocative mastery of expressive art. One collector aptly describes the impact of Amy’s work: “It’s a style of painting that remains in your brain for years until you finally realize you have to just have one of your own. They’re just like nothing you see anywhere else.”
