Marianne Williamson to Speak at College’s Bully Pulpit Series

Published

on

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson will speak at the College of Charleston on Thursday, April 27th, as part of the College’s Bully Pulpit Series. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at 3:30 pm in Rivers Green, which is located behind Addlestone Library at 205 Calhoun Street.

Williamson, who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, is a political activist who advocates for the creation of a U.S. Department of Peace and reparations to Black Americans, as well as significant changes to the education system and Medicare. These causes stem from her social justice work, which began in the 1980s with advocacy for cancer patients and support of HIV/AIDS victims during the height of the AIDS epidemic. Williamson is also a spiritual thought leader and a bestselling author of 13 self-help books.

The Bully Pulpit Series at the College of Charleston encourages and facilitates political participation throughout the campus community by providing a platform for dialogue with the state’s and nation’s leaders. Through town hall events with political candidates, the Bully Pulpit Series reinforces the message that citizen interest and involvement are essential components of a healthy democracy.

The program is co-managed by the College of Charleston’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Communication and Department of Political Science.
