Press Release

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) has partnered with the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) and other community partners to host the second-annual South Carolina College and Career Decision Day rally on May 2nd in downtown Columbia.

Beginning with a march down Main Street and ending with a celebration event on the State House steps, more than 1,500 high-school seniors from more than 30 high schools across the state are scheduled to participate.

Mirrored after National Signing Day and organized by the CHE, this event recognizes and applauds students who are taking charge of their futures by committing to college or university enrollment, beginning a vocational or training program, joining the military or entering the workforce.

College and university representatives from across the state and representatives from the business community, state government and local celebrities will attend to support the students. There will also be games, entertainment, college and career resources, food trucks and other activities.

The event was envisioned by the CHE as a way for South Carolina to show pride in the state’s high school graduates and to invest in their futures. Last year, approximately 1,100 students from 21 high schools attended the inaugural event.

Those interested in the celebration, but unable to attend in person can watch online via the SCETV website.
