Dorchester School District Two (DDTwo) today announced its 2023 District Teacher of the Year is Schoneke Summerhill at Beech Hill Elementary School (BHES).

The math, science, and social studies teacher has taught in DDTwo for 19 of her 27 years in education. She helps to lead professional development at BHES, and she mentors new teachers. She kicked off this school year as the opening speaker at DDTwo’s Convocation program for staff. She was also a nominee for the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2015.

Reflecting on her teaching philosophy, she wrote in her application, “Teachers have the power to change lives, inspire dreams, and push the boundaries of human potential.”

As one of 26 Teachers of the Year on the school level, Ms. Summerhill interviewed with two selection committees made up of educators and representatives from the community.

DDTwo Superintendent Dr. Shane Robbins said, “Ms. Summerhill is an extraordinary professional and an outstanding person. Whether it’s finding a new way to engage students or being a beacon of hope to anyone struggling, she inspires Team Dorchester to continue making a difference for our district and community.”
