Locomotion Fitness mural competition underway
Locomotion Fitness, with assistance from the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department, is hosting a public mural competition. Lowcountry mural artists age 18 and up are invited to submit proposals for a public art piece to be painted on the exterior of Locomotion’s building, located at 4268 Spruill Avenue in Park Circle, North Charleston.
Up to eight artists will be selected. Selected artists will be given a materials stipend to create a 10’x10’ mural and have an opportunity to compete for first, second, and third place prizes. Deadline for proposals is Sunday, June 11th. To apply, artists must submit a CV and rendering of the proposed mural via the online form at: https://forms.gle/KDEvfJBRMSmAZCD16.
There is no theme for the mural competition; however, mural concepts must be family-friendly and appropriate for public display. Locomotion Fitness will provide a $100 materials stipend for each selected artist. Any additional materials expenses must be covered by the artist. Artists will be notified of selections by Wednesday, June 14. Murals must be complete by Sunday, July 2. First, second, and third place winners for the competition will be determined by a panel of judges to include representatives from Locomotion Fitness, North Charleston Cultural Arts, and the local community. Cash prizes of $500 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place will be awarded. All three winners will also receive a free month group class membership at Locomotion Fitness good for yoga, bootcamp, and strength training classes ($200 value) that is transferable.
