Dorchester Two Educational Foundation Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week with Gifts and Free Trip for Teachers
Dorchester Two Educational Foundation celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week by gifting more than $14,000 to educators and surprising the 2023 Teacher of the Year with a free trip.
The Foundation highlighted educators across the district to show the Foundation’s gratitude for DDTwo teachers making a difference in students’ lives. As a surprise “Thank You,” the Foundation gifted $14,000 in $50 gift cards to 285 randomly selected teachers at each district location.
The Foundation also surprised the newly appointed 2023 District Teacher of the Year, Schoneke Summerhill, with an all-inclusive trip for two to her choice of multiple destinations including Cancun, Colorado, Los Cabos, Maine, Puerta Vallarta, and Puerto Rico. Ms. Summerhill, a 27-year teaching veteran at Beech Hill Elementary, says, “My belief is that service to others is not optional, it is how we live a life that has true meaning, a life that makes a difference, and brings about change for the greater good.”
Foundation Executive Director Ralph Hayes says, “DDTwo is one of the lowest funded school districts in South Carolina, but many don’t realize that because the district is recognized as the educational leader in the Lowcountry. The Foundation is committed to raising community awareness and support to show our appreciation for what these amazing educators do in our classrooms and community each day.”
Dorchester Two Educational Foundation, which is a registered 501(c)(3), is the only district-wide Educational Foundation in the tri-county area. Since 2015, the Foundation has raised more than $1.6 million to make a direct impact on DDTwo teachers and students and to fuel classroom innovation.
