The Fitch Law Firm released a report on the most dangerous state for pedestrians and they ranked South Carolina as being the 4th most dangerous in the country.

To come up with the ranking, the law firm analyzed 10 years of data between 2011 and 2020 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to determine which state has the highest average pedestrian deaths per 100,000 residents and is, therefore, the most dangerous.

South Carolina was named the fourth most dangerous state for pedestrians with 2.78 deaths per 100,000 residents on average. South Carolina saw a 33% increase in deaths from 2.42 pedestrian deaths in 2011 to 3.58 in 2020, the sixth-highest on the list. 2020 was the worst year for pedestrian deaths in South Carolina as 187 people died that year.
