The Gibbes Museum of Art Announces New Board of Directors Members

The Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston’s premier art museum, is pleased to announce the election of four new members to its board of directors and two member emeriti. Joining the board are Tej Dhindsa, Felice Knight, Stephanie Pascarella and Abby Rosenthal. Board of Directors member emeriti are Susan Smythe and Susan Porter.
“We are pleased to announce these new members who will help us enhance our community through art,” says Angela Mack, executive director of the Gibbes Museum of Art. “We are thrilled to have them join our team and allow us to continue growing our organization.”
Dr. Tejbir Dhindsa, Board Member, is a partner at Lowcountry Emergency Physicians, working at all six Roper Hospital ER locations in the tri-county area. Tej grew up in Mount Pleasant and attended Porter Gaud before graduating from Emory University and the Medical University of South Carolina. He then moved to Louisville, Ky. to complete his residency in emergency medicine before returning home to Mount Pleasant in 2019, where he currently resides with his wife Victoria and their two dogs. Tej serves as the current president of the Porter Gaud Alumni Association, on the Medical Executive Committee for Roper Hospital and is active in the Medical Society of South Carolina, among other medical associations.
Dr. Felice Knight, Board Member, is a native of Charleston and is the Director of Education at the International African American Museum. She has a bachelor’s degree from Furman University, a master’s degree from a joint master’s program between The Citadel and College of Charleston and a doctoral degree from The Ohio State University. Her professional mission is to retrieve and share unheard stories from marginalized, ethnically diverse and understudied communities by applying her extensive track record in academia to support nonprofit agencies and educational organizations as they build community engagement, motivate teams and optimize project management. She was previously employed as an assistant professor of African American history at The Citadel, as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Humanities at Columbus State Community College, a visiting assistant professor of Black studies at Denison University and a diversity, inclusion, equity and accessibility consultant with Leilani Brown, LLC. She is also the past co-director of The Citadel’s Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Center and former chair of the History and Culture subcommittee for the City of Charleston Special Commission on Equity, Inclusion and Racial Conciliation.
Stephanie Pascarella, Board Member, is an internationally recognized environmentalist as CEO and founder of Wash with Water and a lifetime member of Phi Beta Kappa. Trusted since 2012 as a global CPG leader in the wellness sector, Stephanie has successfully partnered with non-profits like rePurpose Global to fund the collection, processing and reuse of ocean-bound plastic waste. Building one of the first certified negative plastic footprint, B Corp and climate neutral companies, Stephanie has enabled the removal of millions of pounds of low-value plastic waste otherwise landfilled, burned or flushed into the oceans every year. Additionally, as a national board-eligible health and wellness coach, she offers consciousness-based coaching built upon the fundamentals of Ayurveda and meditation, providing a comprehensive, individualized and unique wellness program that leverages the latest in neuroscience, evolutionary and positive psychology for individuals, athletes and corporations.
Abby Rosenthal, Board Member, is a marketing project manager on the retail personalization enablement team at Bank of America, where she has been employed since 2013. She has worked across several lines of business in diverse areas of digital marketing, including email and mobile channel marketing and search engine optimization. Abby holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a master’s in translation and translation studies. She serves on the board of New Muse Concerts and is a founding board member of the Gibbes’ young professionals auxiliary group, Society 1858. She co-chaired the Society 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art in 2020 and 2021 and recently co-chaired education and programming for Art Charleston. She is deeply obsessed with “The Wire” and Stevie Wonder and enjoys spending her time on the water and at cultural events.
Re-elected to another 3-year term are David Adams, Gretchen Cuddy, Denise Mansheim, Catherine Smith, Chuck Sullivan and Lisa Evans. Spencer Lynch will serve a two-year term as board chair, and Deborah Kennedy Kennard will serve a two-year term as vice-chair.
