“The Righteous Gemstones” Season 3 Trailer Released; Charleston-Filmed Series Returns on Father’s Day
HBO recently released the official trailer for the third season of The Righteous Gemstones, a comedy series that was predominately filmed in the Charleston area and stars Danny McBride, John Goodman, Edi Patterson, and Adam Devine. The third season premieres on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18th at 10 pm.
The half-hour show tells the story of a family of televangelists and megachurch pastors led by patriarch Eli Gemstone (Goodman). Eli and his immature adult children, Jesse (McBride), Judy (Patterson) and Kelvin (DeVine), lead opulent lives funded by church donations. According to HBO, season three finds the Gemstone Gemstone children finally getting their wish to take control of the Church, but they “discover leadership is harder than they imagined and that their extravagant lifestyle comes with a heavy price.”
The series also stars Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz, Skyler Gisondo, and Walton Goggins. The following are reportedly joining the show this season in recurring or guest roles: Sturgill Simpson, Steve Zahn, Kristen Johnston, Stephen Dorff, Shea Wigham, Lukas Haas, Robert Oberst, Stephen Schneider, and Iliza Shlesinger.
In addition to starring in the show, McBride also created, writes, and directs the program. He also executive produces the series alongside Jody Hill and David Gordon Green.
The vast majority of filming for The Righteous Gemstones took place in the Charleston area and numerous locals were cast as extras, so local viewers are likely to see plenty of familiar places and faces.
