CCSD Board of Trustees Release Statement About Superintendent Search Process
The CCSD Board of Trustees today released the following statement about their superintendent search process:
“In recent days, many Charleston County citizens have asked additional questions around the superintendent search process. To address those questions, we will continue to be transparent in response to the public.
The CCSD Board of Trustees, in partnership with BWP search firm, conducted a thorough national search to find a highly qualified superintendent.
In total, there were 44 completed applications for the position. BWP reviewed all 44 applications and ultimately delivered seven applications to the Board that fulfilled the CCSD Leadership Profile. The CCSD Leadership Profile was designed following community input and was based on what Charleston County citizens said they wanted in the next superintendent.
After reviewing the applications, the Board ultimately decided to interview six candidates in person. Following the interviews, a vote was taken by the Board regarding which candidates should proceed to the next round of interviews. While three candidates were chosen by the Board for a second round of interviews, Dr. Eric Gallien was the only candidate to receive a unanimous 9 – 0 vote for a second in-person interview. After a second interview and a day in the district, Dr. Gallien received a 6 – 2 vote to proceed with contract negotiations.
The vote to proceed with Dr. Gallien’s contract negotiation was taken after the Board had ample opportunity to interview multiple candidates. His selection was based on the quality of his application, his interviews, and his record of success in showing academic improvement in multiple settings.
As stated at the beginning of the search, we have focused on including the community in the search process. Our goal is the same as yours: the best education for every student, with every teacher, in every classroom.
Respectfully,
