Free Meals for Kids and Teens: Summer Feeding Begins June 12th at Select Library Locations
The Charleston County Public Library (CCPL), Charleston County School District (CCSD) and the Lowcountry Food Bank (LFB) have teamed up to provide free meals and snacks at several library branches for kids this summer break. The Summer Feeding program begins on Monday, June 12th and runs through August 4th.
This program, which is in conjunction with CCSD’s Seamless Summer Feeding and LFB’s Summer Meals, provides free lunches or snacks to children and teens (ages 18 and younger) during the traditional summer vacation period. Hot lunches are provided by the CCSD’s Nutrition Services Department for distribution at seven CCPL branches Monday through Friday, and all meals meet federal meal pattern and nutritional requirements. Snacks or cold lunches are provided, courtesy of the LFB, to three additional branches. There is no eligibility process required for participants to redeem free meals or snacks at the participating branches.
“We are delighted to once again be able to provide access to free, healthy foods for kids and teens this summer,” said CCPL Associate Director, Community Engagement, Kathleen Montgomery. “ CCPL has been working to help fight food insecurity for children and teens and we wouldn’t be able to do this work without partners like CCSD and LFB, who are leaders in providing community support.”
