SC Author Debuts Inspiring Autobiography of a Brilliant Boy who Triumphed Over Poverty & Became a Scientist

Every class seems to have one quiet, brilliant student who often goes unnoticed. These kids, while they may not be popular with their classmates or have many close friends, might go on to make perfect grades, graduate early, or invent something life changing. Some of us have asked ourselves, long after graduating, “Whatever happened to that brilliant kid?” For anyone who’s ever asked themselves that question, “Mill Hill Scientist: A Life Journey from the Edge of Poverty to Fulfillment” chronicles the story of one such student.

Born in a South Carolina “Mill Hill” village called Startex on the day of the official discovery of the transistor effect, author James L. Stevens seemed destined to become a scientist. But Stevens faced a difficult upbringing in a family that struggled to make ends meet. Thanks in part to his passionate interest in the electronic revolution and the Space Race, his brilliant intellect, the steadfast encouragement of his parents and mentors, and his diligent perseverance, Stevens overcame a multitude of obstacles. Now possessing a PhD in physics and an MBA, Stevens has found fulfillment in achieving his life’s dream.

Inspired to write his life story by his conversations with University of South Carolina students on career nights, Stevens hopes that his book will appeal to the unsung young, bright minds of the next generation. This book is for anyone who appreciates an underdog story about overcoming adversity to make an impact on society.

“Mill Hill Scientist: A Life Journey from the Edge of Poverty to Fulfillment” is available for purchase online at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.
