Press Release

Calling all orchestra student enthusiasts! The Summerville Orchestra (S.O.) is thrilled to host “Summer-ville Strings Spectacular,” its first youth summer day camp and continuation of its youth orchestra, which will be an unforgettable musical adventure set to take place from July 10th to July 15th.

Through a generous two-year $50,000 grant from the S.C. Arts Commission (SCAC), the summer camp is open to students from the tricounty, ideally with previous strings experience.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for string students to explore their passion for orchestral music,” said DeAnndra Glenn, Junior and Youth Philharmonic director, and education coordinator of the S.O. “Thanks to the funding from the SCAC, we can extend this opportunity not only to our own Youth and Junior Philharmonic students but also to students from orchestras throughout the region. It is our hope that this camp will inspire and empower the next generation of musicians, fostering their growth and love for the art form.”

Participants will have the opportunity to hone their musical skills by working with experienced musicians and participating in orchestra rehearsals and sectionals. The program includes a fiddle and bluegrass performance clinic, team-building activities, games, and an opportunity to observe a live chamber music performance. The “Summer-ville Strings Spectacular” will conclude on July 15th with a youth orchestra concert performed by the participants themselves!

“Unleash your talent, make new friends, and create memories that will resonate with you for years to come,” Glenn said. “We can’t wait to see you there!”
