Charleston Mayoral Candidate William Cogswell Releases Statement on Union Pier Decision
Charleston Mayoral Candidate William Cogswell today released the following statement regarding the decision to delay Union Pier’s redevelopment plan for another year:
“Union Pier has been under discussion for almost a year, and to date, we’ve heard very little from the Mayor of Charleston. He has been in the backseat while Lowe and the Ports Authority drive the conversation.
I am glad he’s endorsed my proposal to put residents first and have their concerns at the forefront of the conversation. This project has been mishandled from the get-go, so it’s great to see that the next Mayor will have an opportunity to assume a leadership role on Union Pier. I am running because I have the ability to lead from the front, get this project done in a way that benefits the city, and will be proactive instead of reactive.”
Last week, Cogswell held a press conference ahead of the Planning Commission’s public meeting outlining his plan and financial analysis of the Union Pier Project. That press conference can be viewed in its entirety here.
