City of Charleston to Offer Summer of Service Events for Local Youth

Published

on

Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) of Charleston will host a series of Summer of Service leadership development opportunities, service projects, and team building events for Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester County youth. The events will span four weeks throughout June, July, and August, with the first four-day series beginning on Monday, June 26th.

The Summer of Service events – which include a combination of Leadership Days for rising 7th and 8th graders, and Event Days for 11- to 18-year-olds – are designed to provide tools for youth to be successful as they navigate middle and high school, and encourage them to become leaders in their communities.

“It’s critically important to engage youth in constructive activities during the summer months, and we strive to do just that through our Summer of Service,” said Jennifer Gorham, City of Charleston Youth Programs Coordinator. “These events will help youth develop lifetime passions for service while exploring career opportunities, and we’re excited to get started.”

A detailed schedule of Summer of Service events can be found here.

In order for youth to participate, they must complete the Youth Volunteer Profile and Parent Waiver (found here) or have one on file with YVC of Charleston.

All youth will earn volunteer hours for their participation.
