“Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche” Makes Summer Debut at Queen Street Playhouse

Kicking off the first show of Footlight Players’ 2023-24 Act Two Series, and an early start to their Season 92, is the cult comedy hit that first took Charleston by storm over ten years ago. Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche, co-written by College of Charleston graduate and Jefferson Award-winning playwright Evan Linder, will make its Queen Street Playhouse debut in a riotously funny new production which puts the audience right on the stage in the action.

It’s 1956 and The Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche breakfast. As the assembled “widows” await the announcement of the society’s prize-winning quiche, the atomic bomb sirens sound.

Has the Communist threat come to pass? How will the “widows” respond as their idyllic town and lifestyle faces attacks?

The comedy was the winner of the 2012 NYC International Fringe Festival for Best Overall Production and received one of its very first productions outside of the original Chicago cast in the spring of 2012 right here in Charleston with What If? Productions. The two-time Best of Charleston award winning comedy was such a hit that it returned with three more productions over the course of the following  five years with its last Charleston appearance in 2017.

Once again directed by Kyle Barnette, now Artistic Director for Footlight Players, this version of the show will see the audience sitting up on the main stage at the Queen Street Playhouse with the Ladysisters of The Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein, putting them right in the center of the action.

This interactive award-winning comedy is a tasty recipe of hysterical laughs, sexual innuendoes, unsuccessful repressions, and delicious discoveries and runs for just one weekend at the Queen Street Playhouse: July 6th through 9th.

Show dates:

  • July 6 & 7 at 7 pm
  • July 8 & 9 at 4 pm and 7 pm

The Queen Street Playhouse is located at 20 Queen Street. Tickets can be purchased at footlightplayers.net or by calling the box office at 843-722-4487.
