Lake Street Dive to Perform at the Gaillard Center with Monica Martin
Acclaimed pop/soul group Lake Street Dive will bring their 2023 Gather Round Sounds Tour to the Gaillard Center on Sunday, October 29th. They will be joined by special guest Monica Martin.
On the same day they announced their tour, the band also released their version of the Elvis Presley classic, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” featuring Martin. You can listen to the song here.
“When we were preparing to tour together with Monica, we were dying to perform a song with her at the center,” Lake Street Dive said in a press release. “She brought in the idea of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love,’ so we worked up this arrangement on the road to fit the acoustic intimacy of the tour’s namesake— ‘Gather Round Sounds.’ The recording is done the same way; all six of us completely live in one room with no headphones. You can hear every little breath and the closeness of Monica, Rachael, and Akie singing together. What a joy to perform this timeless classic with the timeless Monica Martin!”
Last year, Lake Street Dive, vocalist Rachael Price; bassist/background vocalist, Bridget Kearney; drummer/background vocalist, Mike Calabrese and keyboardist/vocalist, Akie Bermiss released their second collection of much-admired covers, Fun Machine: The Sequel. The 6-track EP ranged from R&B and pop favorites such as Dionne Warwick’s classic “Anyone Who Had A Heart,” and The Pointer Sisters’ funky “Automatic,” to works by introspective singer-songwriters like The Cranberries’ gorgeous “Linger,” Carole King’s timeless “So Far Away,” Bonnie Raitt’s era-defining “Nick Of Time,” and Shania Twain’s resurgent pop-country anthem, “You’re Still The One.” The 9-track vinyl edition builds on the digital EP’s original tracks, adding three Beatles covers including the Lennon/McCartney classics “Dig A Pony,” “Two Of Us,” and “Don’t Let Me Down.”
