Press Release

The public is invited to Mary Martin Gallery on July 7th for the opening reception of “Floral Tapestry” by Edward Rittenberg, which will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm at 103 Broad Street, Charleston. “Floral Tapestry” will be on exhibit throughout July 2023. The artist will be attending the opening reception to meet the public.

JOY! PASSION! NOSTALGIA! What other intangible emotions do flowers evoke? One needs only to spend a few moments with Rittenberg’s work before embarking on an emotional journey

created through his master technique of replicating happiness on canvas. Rittenberg revels in the added depth and dimension that his chosen medium of heavy-body acrylics, and an assortment of tools, such as palette knives and spoons can create an overall enjoyable visual experience.

The inspiration for Rittenberg’s paintings in the show “Floral Tapestry” stems from his desire to bring the vibrant colors and organic forms found in nature into the indoor spaces of his collectors, “one of the greatest satisfactions from my art comes from witnessing the joy my paintings bring to viewers. Spreading happiness through art is my meaningful ambition” says Rittenberg.

The show’s signature piece, “A Springtime Kaleidoscope” a 30” x 40” acrylic on canvas, depicts a splendidly sculpted collection of wildflowers that leap off of the canvas and stretch to the sky over a serene backdrop. Another painting, “Hydrangeas in Blue Vase” a 24” x 24” acrylic on canvas, showcases bright, blooming hydrangeas in a unique impasto portrayal of a floral still-life.

At the impressionable age of 8, Rittenberg faced a difficult decision: continue pursuing art classes or play on his local baseball team. Young Rittenberg chose to play ball, but fate would intervene decades later when his wife challenged him to recreate an image on a small card. This simple act ignited a long-lost passion in Rittenberg, and led to his success as the creative artist we see today.

You can find Rittenberg’s signature pieces in private collections across the country.

Rittenberg is represented by Mary Martin Gallery, 103 Broad Street.
