WREN Files Legal Briefing Against Abortion Ban

Published

on

The Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network (WREN) and its partners this week filed an amicus brief with the South Carolina Supreme Court to support access to abortion in South Carolina.

An amicus brief allows an individual or organization who is not a party to a legal case, to assist a court by offering information, expertise, or insight that has a bearing on the issues in the case. The brief addresses South Carolina’s six week abortion ban and the barriers it will create for people of the state.

Currently, Planned Parenthood, The Center for Reproductive Rights, and Burnette Shutt are challenging South Carolina’s six-week abortion ban. WREN’s brief will support the case.

In addition to WREN, amici include, ABLE SC, Dr. Bambi Gaddist, Dr. Cara Delay, Dr. Debbie Billings, Jill Perry, Palmetto State Abortion Fund, SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, and The Hive Community Circle.

“WREN is proud to speak on behalf of the millions of South Carolinians who would be negatively impacted by this unjust law,” said WREN CEO Ann Warner. “It is an honor to stand with the fellow amici in filing this brief with the South Carolina Supreme Court. WREN and our partners will do everything in our power to defend the health, economic well-being, and rights of the people of this state,” said Ann Warner, CEO of Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network.
