Exactly What is a Pornstar Martini?

Now, if you went into a bar or restaurant with cocktails and said, surprise me with a drink I probably have never had, you would expect some sort of a complicated mix. That would be a natural assumption and expectation. However, that last thing on that list would probably be something along the lines of a Pornstar Martini.

The drink is an odd one, almost as if it was the result of a contest on how wacky of a martini one could make in a kitchen. Combine a pineapple slide, premium vodka, passion fruit, some more passion fruit in puree form, and vanilla syrup and you have the core elements of a circus of a drink. Of course, this is not complete without an additional shot of champagne added as a chaser to drink right after. Just listing out the ingredients is enough to give someone a serious momentary headache. The bubbly will definitely create a burp or two as well.

The inventor of the Pornstar Martini, one Douglas Ankrah, didn’t intend for the drink recipe to be associated with a sordid entertainment career choice in the film. However, it’s hard to believe that argument when the name itself automatically provokes assumptions about its origins. People naturally assume a cocktail with that kind of name had to have something to do with XXX film stars somehow, someway. And, as for Ankrah’s intentions, whether he wanted it or not, the name does garner attention the wrong way right up front.

As for the Pornstar Martini recipe itself, any attempt at a homemade version should have the following:

• 1.5 parts of premium vodka, vanilla flavored
• three-fourths of a passionfruit puree
• 1/2 part with vanilla syrup for an even stronger taste
• a solid pineapple slice
• a half part of passionfruit
• second half of the passionfruit

All of the ingredients except the second half of the passion fruit are put into a mixer and combined with shaking. Then, the liquid contents are poured out into the martini glass and the second half of the passionfruit floats in the drink. The chilled champagne is provided as a chaser but not mixed in.  Again, make sure that it is extremely cold for the best drink effect combined with the martini.

There are some ways to make your homemade Pornstar Martini even better. First off, moderate your shaking when mixing the drink. It needs to be properly combined, not gyrated to death. Second, the champagne chosen should be chilled extremely cold when used as a chaser for the Martini itself. And lastly, give the passionfruit a few days before actually using in your drink. The ripening effect will make the passionfruit taste even better.

After you put together your Pornstar Martini and enjoy it, having both a drink and fruit, you’re probably going to join hundreds of others wondering why in the world it earned the name it did. The answer probably won’t be any clearer, but the drink itself sure is a different experience, no argument.
