South Carolina Natives Darius Rucker and Chadwick Boseman to be Honored with Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
South Carolina natives Darius Rucker and the late Chadwick Boseman (above) will both be honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2024. The pair and their fellow 2024 nominees were announced on Monday.
“The Selection Committee which is made up of fellow Walk of Famers, carefully hand-picks a group of honorees each year that represent various genres of the entertainment world,” said Chair and Walk of Famer Ellen K, “The Committee did an amazing job choosing these very talented people. We can’t wait to see each honoree’s reaction as they realize that they are becoming a part of Hollywood’s history with the unveiling of their star on the world’s most famous walkway!”
Rucker (right) grew up in the Charleston area and attended the University of South Carolina. While at the school, he formed Hootie & the Blowfish with some friends. Rucker now has a successful solo career, but still performs with Hootie & the Blowfish. Between the band and his solo work, Rucker has sold millions of albums, scored several No. 1 singles, and earned multiple Grammy Awards.
Boseman was an actor that was as born and raised in Anderson. During his two-decade career, Boseman received multiple accolades, including two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a Critics’ Choice Movie Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and an Academy Award nomination.
Although he was already a popular actor, his portrayal of the Marvel Comics superhero Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) propelled him to international stardom. He appeared in four MCU films, including an eponymous 2018 film that earned him an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Boseman died in 2020 at the age of 43 from complications stemming from his colon cancer diagnosis.
